Victoria Place

Brand Identity, Visual System & Character Design

During the pandemic, I was invited by Sweet Nothing Productions to develop the full visual identity and graphic system for Victoria Place, a live, episodic comedy series performed on Zoom.

The show ran monthly from December 2020 to June 2021 (6 episodes total), requiring a cohesive and engaging visual language that could replace traditional stage and on-screen presence in a fully digital format.

Challenge

With performances taking place entirely on Zoom, the production lacked the physical and visual cues of a traditional stage. The challenge was to create a system that could visually represent characters, maintain audience engagement, and reinforce the show’s tone, all within the limitations of a live virtual environment.

The identity also needed to support ongoing promotion across multiple episodes while keeping the experience fresh and recognizable, while also extending into merchandise that could resonate with the audience.

Role

I led the visual direction of the project, including brand identity, character design, promotional graphics, merchandise, and social media assets.

Process

The concept was built around a comic book–inspired visual language, aligning with the show’s humor, character-driven storytelling, and episodic format.

  • Developed a bold, playful brand identity influenced by comic book aesthetics

  • Designed a full set of illustrated character portraits, each drawn digitally to represent cast members

  • Created a dynamic system where, during live performances, illustrated character cards would appear on screen in place of actors, reinforcing identity and clarity for the audience

  • Designed episode-specific poster artwork styled as comic book covers to support the episodic structure

  • Built a consistent typographic and graphic system for promotional use across platforms

  • Produced Instagram content to promote each episode, ensuring visual continuity while keeping each release distinct

  • Designed merchandise, including character-based t-shirts and buttons, extending the visual identity beyond the showβ€”some of which were also incorporated into the character illustrations themselves

Solution

The final system transformed a technical limitation into a defining feature of the show. By replacing live video presence with illustrated character visuals, the design became an integral part of the storytelling experience.

The comic-inspired identity extended seamlessly across live performance, promotional materials, and merchandise, creating a cohesive and recognizable brand.

Outcome

The visual system enhanced audience engagement and gave the production a distinctive identity within the constraints of virtual performance. The addition of merchandise created an additional touchpoint for the audience, reinforcing the show’s characters and expanding its presence beyond the live episodes.
